Over the last 100 years, the
annals of Swiss poster history have been written by many designers, but only
a few artists have to any extent created as great a poster portfolio as Hans
Falk. Falk's remarkable gift of drawing lead him from the beginning. The
poster became for him the reflection of his artistic credo to the public. In
that respect, his work is similar to the posters made by artists for
exhibitions, theater, cabaret and sporting events in France at the turn of
the century. Their success was not based upon market analysis, but rather
the striking, surprising artistic statement. These similarities gave him the
name "The Lautrec of the 20th Century".
