In 1963 the Swiss National
Expo on Peace, to be attended in Lausanne in 1964, announced a poster
competition for the event to the graphic designers of Europe. Seven posters
would be chosen from hundreds of entries. To the dismay of nearly every
competitor, Hans Falk's series of 7 spectacular, abstract posters was chosen
to represent the conference, each with a message about the conference. These
non figurative, non graphic, totally modern, abstract images were an
audacious attempt to rid the poster of it's advertising intent. This series of 7
posters also represented a turning point in Falk's artistic career and for
all practical purposes, were the last posters he produced.
