Joaquin Capa![]() Joaquin Capa's work reveals a thoughtful sensibility about a world full of hope, but one which has been tinged with sadness. Color, form, and rhythm are masterfully handled to provide a sense of richness. This richness is of the world and of the artist who has traveled widely, and studied intensively. The intensity of Capa's personality is apparent in his work, and yet it is not displayed by a casual use of technical bravura. Though technically brilliant etchings with aquatint, Capa's work is always subtle, ever bowing to the imperfection of the human understanding. Born in Santander, Spain 1941. Studied at the School of Fine Arts, Madrid, 1965-1970. Explored new techniques in printmaking at the Atelier 17 of W.S. Hayter in Paris, 1976-1976. Also studied philosophy in Madrid and Rome, architecture in Madrid, and the sociology of art in Paris. Taught at the University of Barody, India as a visiting professor, 1983, 1989, 1990. First Prize at the International Biennial Bhopal, India 1989. Capa's works can be found in the museum collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Louvre, Paris, Bibliotheque National, Paris, George Pompidou Centre, Paris, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, National Museum, Prague, Museum of Contemporary Spanish Art, Madrid and Kunsthaus, Zurich. |
