Lou Gorodine

La Plage

Lou Gorodine, lives and works in Paris, France. She has numerous degrees from studies at DEA Sociologie, Paris, a Masters of Film & Television, Tisch School of The Arts, New York University, Academie de dessin Yepez and Ecole de Beaux Arts both in Valencia, Venezuela and other advanced studies and work in both New York and Paris. Her works have been exhibited at shows in New York, Caracas, Dusseldorf, Frankfort, Stockholm and Paris.

Gorodine uses a Carborundum Engraving technique to create her prints. This technique doesn't require any chemical or mechanical action, it is not necessary to use copper or zinc any support will do as long as it can withstand pressure without deteriorating. Unlike the traditional engraving process, where the surface of the plate is cut into or hollowed out, this technique creates a rough surface on the plate of different texture calibers by applying varnish or sprinkling on carborundum power, using fabrics or string any number of items. All this is molded into a synthetic resin which hardens when it dries. The printing process is similar to the traditional one.
