Ladislav Hanka

Cafe Kabuki II

White Crowned Sparrow

Ladislav Hanka, born 1952, lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Hanka has earned a BA in Biology, a BS in Zoology, and a MFA in Printmaking. He has lectured on art and ornithology, done environmental impact monitoring of a nuclear power plant, illustrated books, and fought city hall by seeding his yard to wildflowers. Today he is a printmaker and draftsman with over 50 solo exhibitions to his credit in his dozen years as a full time artist. His works are displayed in private and public collections on all continents.

"My etchings are based in a sense of awe before nature; the desire to know and record it intimately and to do the creation honor. It was this that originally brought me to art and it is through a constant renewal of this relation that I continue to be effective.... My subject matter is life, which is in itself essential, transcendent and beautiful. It deserves to be honored as such. An artist's life is an inner journey of realization of a transcendent nature. The resultant works of art are physical manifestations of that vision and at their best, windows on the eternal moral order."
