Aleah Koury

 

Fall Bloom

     Aleah Koury was born in Bellingham, Washington, and spent his early childhood in California before moving to the Midwest. In 1975, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics from the University of Missouri at Columbia an in 1980 a Master's of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. Since that time Koury has lived in and around San Francisco and the Bay area.

     Koury comes from a diverse artistic background that has encouraged him to be bold in experimenting with new materials and imagery. Most recently combining pastels with enamel and latex paints, gold, bronze and sliver leafing, oil pastel and pencil to create works of spectacular richness and texture. He is a gifted colorist.

     Aleah Koury's "Gardens" and "Floral Still Life" series, draws inspiration from 19th Century French master Odilon Redon as well as his own California garden. Color is the true subject.

     His prints are in numerous public collections including Eastman Kodak, Exxon Chemical, Niko Hotels, Union Carbide, US Air, Xerox and various corporations in Japan, Hong Kong, France and Germany.
