This image first appeared in a poster advertising The Colonial Exposition in Marseille in 1922, France wanted to show their vitality. Focused on the port, not the town and its colonies. The PLM (Paris Lyon Mediteranee) Railroad re-used the image on a poster promoting the port as the thriving center of commerce it had become.
