David Bumbeck
David Bumbeck’s technical acumen is remarkable. He uses techniques of intaglio printmaking, such as etching, aquatint, engraving, and photo-transfer. Each steel plate may represent 100’s of hours of work. There are no mistakes in David Bumbeck’s prints, no gratuitous marks, no sloppy gestures. His etchings are virtuoso performances of controlled and assured technique.
For over 25 years, the human figure has been the dominant, central motif in Bumbeck’s prints. Born in 1940, David Bumbeck received his B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and a M.F.A. from Syracuse University. He has been a professor at Middlebury College, Vermont, during the last 20 years.
His prints are in numerous public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Carnegie Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Library of Congress, National Merit Museum of Art, and the Boston Public Library, Wiggin Collection.
